Details

Do you and your dogs want to explore the North Coast 500 and visit John o’Groats? Have you always wanted to stay in a Lighthouse cottage?

The Lighthouse Keeper’s cottage is a light and cosy hideaway, set on a headland with sea on three sides – you can see Orkney from the garden and a ruined castle out of the kitchen window. It’s perfect for a quiet romantic getaway, or for family adventures with the kids. And of course, your dogs are welcome – and ask about other pets.

The cottage sleeps up to six people and, with adult beds in all three bedrooms, it offers flexible accommodation for families and groups.

Our well-equipped kitchen is great for cooking, and our family/dining room has a large table, perfect for meals or board-games. Our cosy living room has a Smart TV and DVD player, with loads of family-favourite DVDs if the weather is bad outside.

The main bedroom has a super-king bed, and the twin beds and bunks are all adult-sized too. All three bedrooms have 100% organic cotton bedding. We have one family bathroom with an extra large shower, and a toilet and basin.

Our guests love the views, taking the dog on the big open beaches, and spotting birds and seals from the clifftop walks. Our info pack has a map with our own dogs’ favourite places for off-lead running, and on-lead exploring.

There is lots of open space surrounding the cottage, but we do ask you to keep your dogs on a lead: we have dogs and casts ourselves, there may be sheep in the neighbouring fields, and there are cliffs and open water nearby - it is a lighthouse after all!

Local attractions and activities include:

• Castles – Dunrobin Castle, the Castle of Mey, and ruined Castle Sinclair Girnigoe

• Distilleries – Old Pultney, 8 Doors at John o’Groats, Wolfburn, Rock Rose

• Heritage Centres – Vintage motors in Halkirk, and museums in Wick and Thurso

• Family activities - Body boarding and surfing at Thurso, petting farms for younger kids
