Flowing from the Howgill Fells above Tebay, the river tumbles then meanders through some of England’s loveliest but largely undiscovered countryside. Kirkby Lonsdale offers the visitor the same soothing views the Romantics enjoyed, the same old historic buildings lining quaint streets and alleyways. Take a stroll down Salt Pie Lane; see if you can find your way back through Jingling Lane to the old Market Square.
