The historic market town of Pickering (formerly known as Piceringas and Pykering) is situated between York and Scarborough. Providing the official gateway to the beautiful North York Moors National Park, also known to many as the North Yorkshire Moors.

The town draws a large number of visitors (mostly during the summer months), many are day trippers visiting the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway (the longest steam railway in England). The Beck Isle Museum is also a major visitor attraction with its unique collection of black and white photography and displays of rural life.

Nearby are the market towns of Malton, Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley which can be easily accessed by car or public transport. Attractions such as Flamingoland, Castle Howard and Duncombe Park are just a few of the most renowned visitor allurements England has to offer. Some of the UK's prettiest villages such as Thornton Le Dale, Hutton Le Hole and Goathland are just a short drive. Fans of the TV series Heartbeat will know Goathland as Aidensfield. Harry Potter fans can explore locations used in the filming of Philosopher's Stone - a good place to start is the railway station in Pickering.

The outstanding North York Moors with rolling hills, valleys, rivers and abundant wildlife lead all the way to the Yorkshire Coast where you can visit Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Robin Hoods Bay. The city of York is just over half an hour by car or a good tip is to park in Malton and take the train.

Pickering is a tranquil market town and the perfect location for taking a peaceful rest. There is also lots to explore for the more adventurous.
