The Old Rectory, Wheathill, Ludlow, Shropshire
The Old Rectory offers luxury, pet friendly bed and breakfast accommodation in Wheathill, Shropshire. We are one of Alex Polizzi's Top Affordable Hotels (Daily Telegraph, 2012).
There are three elegant and individual rooms, two with lovely ensuite bathrooms and both with views over the spectacular gardens. The third room looks over the front of the house and the stable yard. It is smaller than the other two, but perfectly comfortable with its own rather smart private bathroom (not ensuite).
For riders or walkers there is a boot room where you can store muddy footwear and wet clothes. There's a peg and a boot locker for everyone. And if you come in from the cold outdoors there's a small sauna in the cellar - perfect for one - or two if you want to be cosy.
Your comfort is our concern at The Old Rectory. Guests have the use of the large and comfortable drawing room where you can have afternoon tea and relax in front of the fire with the newspaper, a magazine or a good book from our extensive library.
Breakfast is taken in the dining room overlooking the gardens - or if its fine you can take your meals outside on the terrace and enjoy the view framed by the magnificent cedar tree.
If you have horses then why not bring them on your Shropshire holiday too? The Old Rectory B&B near Ludlow is right on a bridleway that leads directly to the Jack Mytton Way and over the Brown Clee and Titterstone Clee Hills. Literally 1000s of acres of riding country - fantastic scenery and virtually no need to go on a road. There are 4 loose boxes with straw or shavings and hay or haylage is provided. Let us know in advance if you need hard feed too, though most people like to bring their own. There is a lockable tack room with saddle racks and storage space and parking for horse trailers and lorries.
The B&B has 2 resident dogs at The Old Rectory; Tilly - a young Norfolk Terrier and Taramc - an extremely friendly black lab. We also have a rather aloof house cat with no name - just cat! They all enjoy having canine friends to stay at the B&B in Shropshire. Guest dogs are welcome in the house downstairs (if they are not wet and muddy), but not in the drawing room or dining room and not upstairs. There are plentiful supplies of dog towels. We have spare dog beds in the boot room or they can sleep in the owners car or one of our stables.
The county of Shropshire is an undiscovered gem and it has something for everyone. Beautiful market towns, classic English villages, historic houses, ancient castles and stunning, unspoilt scenery. Ludlow, described by John Betjeman as "probably the loveliest town in England", is a mecca for foodies who book into its famous restaurants months ahead. But there’s Bridgnorth too and Much Wenlock - both within 20 miles.
