Details

Our pet friendly holiday cottages are set in grounds of almost seven acres and are surrounded by farmland on three sides; the grounds are a haven for wildlife. The five one-bedroom self-catering holiday properties provide the opportunity to relax in the tranquil surroundings of a Victorian rectory in the rolling Suffolk countryside. And after a day out what is more perfect than to relax on a bench in the Orchard or by the Pond with a glass of wine?

Well behaved dogs are welcome in all of our self-catering holiday properties.

The Butler's Pantry: If you are a romantic then this is the cottage for you. A beautiful conversion from the servants’ quarters has resulted in a stylish comfortable property which has been furnished with individually selected pieces and boasts a super king bed. The Butler’s Pantry is accessed via 13 steps into a Victorian brick courtyard.

The Old Pump House: Sympathetically converted from domestic buildings and probably our most luxurious cottage, The Old Pump House is accessed via 13 steps into a Victorian brick courtyard. The property retains parts of the original pump mechanism in the lounge/dining area. An exceptional feature is the large bedroom with a super king bed, which can on request be split into 2 full-size single beds.

Sam's Stable: A clever conversion of the Rectory’s Victorian stable block has resulted in a spacious single storey property, with excellent views over the Old Rectory’s fruit orchard to the surrounding farmland. The high ceilings reinforce the ambience of spaciousness, coupled with a king size bed and add a log burner for those romantic winter evenings and Sam’s Stable offers a perfect retreat to escape from the pressures of a busy life.

Orchard View: Set among the trees our new lodge Orchard View offers an impressive outlook over The Old Rectory’s orchards and the surrounding unspoilt countryside. Built to our own specification, the lodge has been decorated and furnished to compliment the building. Orchard View offers an idyllic relaxing retreat for two and a fantastic base to explore the many attractions the area offers.

On offer is a spacious open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with two sets of patio doors that allow you to admire the terrific views and afford access to the two decked areas- ideal for eating al-fresco; enjoying a glass of wine or just relaxing after you return from a day exploring the area. Combine this with a king-size bed made-up with quality linen and Orchard Lodge offers a wonderful sanctuary for couples.

The Old Coach House: The conversion of the Rectory’s Victorian stable block has resulted in a spacious single storey property with comfort and style throughout. Enjoying excellent views over the Old Rectory’s fruit orchard to the surrounding farmland, The Old Coach House has high ceilings which add to the sense of spaciousness, whilst the log burner is there for those romantic winter evenings. With its king size bed guests will find The Old Coach House a perfect hideaway for two.

What can I do during my stay at The Old Rectory?

Firstly, within walking distance we have the Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum The village’s own Museum houses 50 aircraft; a large inside display, as well as buildings showing the history of other aviation related organisations- Very interesting for aircraft enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike.

Next door to the Aviation Museum is the Buck Inn- a must for both good food and well kept real ales!

The close by St Peters Brewery is a firm favourite with our guests – with its fine range of Traditionally brewed beers, it is little wonder why, the tutored tastings are so popular.

The picturesque market towns of Bungay, Beccles and Harleston are all within 20 minutes’ drive - all provide the opportunity to shop in individual shops rather than the national chains found in most towns now and also host a good range of excellent restaurants and pubs.

Norwich the UK’s most complete medieval city with its network of winding streets and over 1,500 historic buildings. Museums, galleries, theatres, concerts, cinema and festivals provide plenty of cultural opportunities – And all only 19 miles away.

Fancy a day at the sea? Southwold or Lowestoft are both within 20 miles..

Or what about a visit to the attraction hailed as Britain's Tutankhamun to see the burial ground of an Anglo-Saxon king containing a ship fully equipped for the afterlife (but thankfully, no body!)

The Old Rectory offers an excellent base for guests who wish to walk, cycle, fish or watch birds.

For walkers there are numerous footpaths including the Angles Way and Bigod Way.

Gardeners are spoilt for choice with many interesting gardens in the area; some of the best can be found at Somerleyton, Wyken Hall and East Ruston Bressingham Gardens

And after a day out what is more perfect than to relax on a bench in the Orchard or by the Pond with a glass of wine?
