Belnaboth East is set within its own fully enclosed grounds which extend to 1 acre. The front garden is in lawn with a small pond and a number of elderberry trees, below which are a ‘host of golden daffodils’ in springtime. There is a patio area with hardwood garden furniture. This is a lovely place to sit and unwind and watch for the deer and pheasants, or admire the golden grain in the fields in the summer time.
Glenbuchat was once a thriving glen with over 500 people at the time of the 1911 census, mainly crofters, farm workers, or trades people like joiners and shoemakers. Sadly there is now just a small population of about 50. But it is a Glen of fascinating history and heritage, natural beauty, and lots of wildlife. There is a wonderful website called the ‘Glenbuchat Heritage Archive’ with many fascinating potted histories of the various hamlets, which once existed in the Glen and of the families who have lived here over the centuries, as well as many interesting historical photographs. The nearest shop is 2 miles away at Bellabeg. This is a very well-stocked SPAR shop with a post office counter, also selling newspapers/magazines and fresh bakery goods from Aberdeenshire bakeries. It is licensed with a good selection of wines, beers and spirits.
