The Old Stables Cottage, Laugharne, Carmarthenshire
The Old Stables Cottage is home to dog friendly holiday cottage and is set in one of the finest locations in West Wales. We are just a short drive from Laugharne in Carmarthenshire and are set in 10 acres of stunning countryside and surrounded by fields and woodlands which gently drop down to the sea. The views from the farm are outstanding and we provide a retreat for 4 people who want to enjoy the peace and quiet.
The farm is only half a mile from the township of Laugharne. It is a pleasant stroll down into Laugharne, but with the farm being at the top of a very steep hill it is definitely a more strenuous walk on the way back – a very good way of getting fit. A torch is provided in the Old Stables Cottage for those adventurous souls who want to walk back from Laugharne after dark!
After a major refurbishment, our holiday cottage is now a considerably larger cottage than previously, with the addition of an open plan kitchen/dining conservatory. There are two bedrooms, a double and a twin, a large lounge, hallway with cupboards and a bathroom with a large double shower. The holiday cottage has been designed with dogs and their owners in mind. It is easy to clean with tiled floors and rugs throughout. There are throws for the settees and also for the beds. There is lots of space throughout the cottage for dog beds and an ample supply of dog towels and dog bowls. The cottage has lots of cupboard and wardrobe space and a very well stocked kitchen. Beds are made up on arrival and bath, hand and tea towels are all provided.
There are lots of DVDs, CDs and magazines. The cottage also has a very extensive library where books are available to buy for 50p, which is a donation to West Wales Poundies Dog Rescue. There is a TV, video and DVD in the lounge, a TV/video in the twin room, a CD/radio in the conservatory and a radio alarm clock in the double room. Externally there is a front courtyard with seating and space to park a car.
To the side of the cottage is a large gravelled area with table and chairs which leads into an enclosed garden with post and rail fencing and chicken wire, so even small dogs should not be able to escape! There is a hosepipe in the garden and an outside tap at the rear of the cottage and also an outside tap with hosepipe outside the stables in the courtyard.
Our holiday home is a great year round destination. It is lovely to sit out in the garden or on the patios in the summer, but in the winter, or when the weather is not so pleasant you can sit in the conservatory and look across the sea to Worm’s Head on the Gower.
There is no restriction on the number, size or type of dog. In fact, we only accept guests who are bringing dogs with them! Every dog that comes to stay in the cottage has a present of a toy or treat (no matter how many dogs you bring, they all get one each). This includes Burns treats, Sensitive treats for larger dogs and training treats for smaller ones. The cottage has a large supply of dog towels and throws and dog bowls.
Not only are dogs welcome at Sir Johns Hill Farm, but there are great facilities for horses too, with stabling and grazing both being available. Stabling and turnout is available year round, but turnout only is available from April to October. There are 9.5 acres of grazing land at the Farm, split between two large fields and seven paddocks, so that you can be assured that your horse can have its own paddock, or just share with its friends.
