The Northern Fells of the English Lake District are more remote and the lesser-known parts of the Lake District, but boasts some outstanding scenery and some of the best, less frequented walking in the whole of the Lake District. These include High Pike and Carrock Fell - both of which can be viewed from the back of the cottage. Hesket Newmarket has a shop/post office, together with tearooms. The multi-award-winning village pub, The Old Crown, was Britain's first co-operatively owned pub - by the villagers themselves. The Old Crown's microbrewery, the Hesket Newmarket Brewery, is located behind the pub and make it a popular place for real ale enthusiasts. The pub usually has at least 5 real ales on at any one time which are usually CAMRA award winners. The pub also serves excellent home-cooked bar meals.
