The House at Temple Sowerby is a beautiful boutique hotel, nestled in a stunning part of the Lake District National Park. It is an ideal base for those who are looking for a relaxing break away, which is centrally located for exploring Cumbria and visiting the Yorkshire Dales. We are just a short drive from Penrith and Appleby-in-Westmorland which has the mighty Cross Fell Mountain as a spectacular backdrop.
This beautiful building was originally built in the 17th Century and has been tastefully decorated and refurbished to provide guests with a luxurious place to stay. Our spacious rooms are individually furnished and consist of:

Ground floor rooms are available and our dog friendly rooms are in the Coach House. These rooms have access to the walled garden for your four-legged friends top enjoy, plus your furry family members will receive a special gift from The House.
Breakfast is included within the room rate and is freshly prepared each morning. We have received 2 AA Rosettes for our culinary excellence and are pleased to be able to offer the same high standard in our dinner menu also. The relaxed, personal style of service helps to create the perfect environment for the enjoyment of food and the wine list has been carefully chosen to include interesting wines as well as old favourites. Guests with food allergies or intolerance should ask for advice about the ingredients contained in each dish.

As a Penrith Hotel, we are close to the Lake District National Park and Temple Sowerby is a lovely old village in the heart of Cumbria’s Eden Valley, recently described as ‘Britain’s loveliest valley’. Cyclists of all abilities will find routes in and around Eden with outstanding scenery. Whether it’s around the quiet villages or the tough, but awesome terrain between the Eden Valley and Orton Fells, there’s a route for everyone.
