Monks Retreat Holiday Cottages offers charming self catering accommodation in the delightful village of Millers Dale. We are based near Buxton in the heart of Derbyshire, great for a tranquil retreat in the countryside.

Our 3 fabulous oak beamed cottages have been beautifully restored to offer quality accommodation and boast stunning views across the dales, fields and hills. Each of the cottages is individual in character and maintains its own privacy but together they make an ideal base for a larger party or group of families and the dining area in Abbots Abode is large enough for the whole of such a group to relax over a meal together.

Each cottage has a cosy living area with a flat-screen TV, a well-equipped kitchen for home cooking and gardens equipped with barbeques and garden furniture for al fresco dining.

Abbot’s Abode: Sleeps 6 in a double room and a family room with single bed and 2 more single beds on the gallery above, accessed by a short ladder. The bathroom has a bath with shower over etc.

Friar’s Folly: Sleeps 4 in a double and twin room. Both rooms share a bath with a power shower over.

Monk’s Memories: Sleeps 2 in a double en suite room.

A host of wild birds visit our extensive terraced gardens where there are elevated viewpoints and quiet corners in which to sit.

Each cottage has the use of a separate fully-equipped laundry. Cots, high chairs and stair gates can be supplied to ensure young children can enjoy their stay in comfort and safety. All cottages have central heating.

Millers Dale offers delightful walks along the River Wye or on the bed of the former Midland Railway track where a good deal of industrial archaeology lends particular interest to your exploration. You could spend endless happy hours on foot without having to use the car at all. Further afield you will find the stunning Lathkill Dale and the Castleton area noted for its caves with stalactite formations and a Norman castle.

There are many interesting local towns and villages to visit. Tideswell is nearby with its church, dubbed the Cathedral of the Peak, as well as a range of shops, sports facilities and the tradition of well dressing which it shares with many other peak district villages.
