Lawn Cottage is a delightful 18th century stone cottage at Stour Row near Shaftesbury. The cottage has charming, antique filled rooms along with a pretty garden and terrace. We provide a space where guests can rest, relax and recuperate, perfect for those who want a peaceful Dorset break away.

The bed and breakfast has a charming garden and terrace, which guests are very welcome to use. Our front lawn has recently been converted to raised vegetable beds which now produce lovely beans, potatoes, tomatoes and herbs in season. There is a gate from the garden to the fields behind which leads to Duncliffe Wood. Duncliffe is 250 acres of Woodland Trust full of lovely walks and in the early spring bursting with primroses and violets and later filled with bluebells and foxgloves.

There are three rooms at Lawn Cottage for bed and breakfast guests:

A ground floor twin/double with en suite shower room & TV/dvd player. Suitable for the less able (but not wheelchairs).

A ground floor lofty single/bunk bedroom with en suite shower. Suitable for the less able (but not wheelchairs).

A double bedroom with private bathroom upstairs.

As well as our B&B accommodation, we also have a shepherd’s hut available. The glamping accommodation been completely refurbished, painted and furnished with great care and 'Louis' the wonderful wood burner provides heat and hot water - lighting can be from the excellent battery lights - or you can use the electricity for lighting and heating from the oil radiator. A full English breakfast with organic eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes and mushrooms, Dorset cereals and porridge, kippers and haddock on request and a selection of breads, croissants and rolls, with homemade blackcurrant jam and marmalade. All accompanied by fresh coffee, a selection of teas and freshly squeezed orange juice. Breakfast can be taken in the cosy kitchen with its Aga or in the more formal dining room.

Lawn Cottage is an ideal base for visiting Dorset, Somerset or Wiltshire being on the border of all three, or as a quiet place to relax and unwind. Being located in the village of Stour Row is ideal, as we are only three miles south west of Shaftesbury in the Blackmore Vale and an ideal base for visiting many attractions.

The nearby market town of Shaftesbury is famous for Gold Hill which featured in the Hovis advert. Also close by are popular locations such as:

Sherborne with its abbey and both old & new castles.

Wincanton with its antique shops and the National Hunt Racecourse.

Blandford, which is famous for its Georgian houses

The lovely Wilton House, Longleat and Sherborne Castles are within half an hour as are the National Trust houses/gardens of Stourhead and Kingston Lacey. Dorset has a wealth of lovely churches, villages and places to visit. There are books of walks at Lawn Cottage and Mrs Watkins is happy to recommend days out.

Dorset is a delightful county to explore with a wealth of villages and towns, churches and gardens, walks and pubs, ancient hill forts and its isolation from any motorways and small lanes to travel through somehow make it unique.
