Magdalene House is an 18th Century property providing comfortable, dog friendly bed and breakfast accommodation. It is the home of chieftain McKerrell of Hillhouse and the Lady Hillhouse. It is set back from the road in the historic town of Lochmaben. Lockerbie is within easy reach. This is the perfect base for exploring the lovely border countryside using the daily tours the owners provide.

The guest bedrooms are all bright with wood and cane, Sanderson paper or antique cream and gilt furniture. Two of the bedrooms are four posters. In the living room is a beautiful Broadwood Grand Piano and French windows that open out to the lovely walled gardens.

Charles and May dine with guests. Emphasis is on the best local produce and a typical dinner might be smoked salmon, cream of broccoli soup, haggis, roast lamb or baked salmon. Scottish cheeses are offered to anyone with space left.

This area is stunning with lots of nature walks and there is a golf course nearby. Mary Queen of Scots even visited Lochmaben Castle and called it a 'lovely place, the very home of beauty'. There are other interesting places to visit such as the Castle Loch Local Nature Reserve and Comlongon Castle. There is also a lovely walk around the Castle Loch perfect for dogs.
