This charming 17th century country mansion stands in beautiful gardens surrounded by its own rolling farmland and offers luxurious accommodation, a stunning spa and enjoyable golf course. It is an idyllic rural retreat in the picturesque and peaceful Durham Dales, near to Barnard Castle & Newton Aycliffe.
The forty en-suite bedrooms are located in either the Main Hall, Coach House, Mews or Spa and as you would expect in a country mansion there are differing shapes, styles and character. All rooms, however, have a high standard of decor and furnishings with newly appointed bathrooms, free wireless internet access, Sky television, ironing centres and tea and coffee making facilities with complimentary mineral water. For many people being able to bring their four-legged friend on a short break in the countryside is an important factor so we welcome well-behaved dogs in some of our Mews bedrooms (deluxe double, twin or family) without charge. These rooms are very well suited as they have direct access to the outside and their own designated car parking place just outside.
The restaurant at Headlam Hall is set over three rooms, each offering its own style and character. The Panelled room has a warm and intimate ambiance and the Orangery a fresh tranquil atmosphere.
The kitchen team enjoy an excellent reputation for producing tasty dishes reflecting the best of modern British and Continental cuisine with an emphasis on using fresh, high quality locally sourced produce. The extensive wine list offers both quality and value with a combination of classical European and New World wines.

Located near Durham in the North East, and set over rolling pastureland around the Hall gardens this enjoyable and challenging course features an abundance of natural features including rig & fur, woodland, streams and ponds making it a test for the most experienced of golfers. The course, situated close to Barnard Castle, Newton Aycliffe and Scotch Corner has a wide variety of holes from the daunting 116 yard ‘Pond Hole’ to the long 523 yard ‘Sleeters’ par 5. The full size greens have been constructed to USGA specification with irrigation and offer some of the best playing surfaces in the region. Our golf course near Darlington is open to non-members and offers golf packages and special breaks.
