As well as being justifiably famous for its historical and cultural highlights, Edinburgh is no less blessed for those who wish to relax in the great outdoors. Walking in Edinburgh is by far the best way to see it, there are numerous trails and guided walks to take in the dark recesses of the city, what other capital city can provide you with and extinct volcano (Arthurs Seat). Surrounding the city we have the Pentland Hills where a brisk 30 minute climb takes you back to nature as does the John Muir costal path in East Lothian. Cyclists are very well catered for in the city where there are several trails that will allow you to crisscross the city without competing for road space with buses and cars.
