The Big Wooden House, Greyholme, Brodick, Isle of Arran
The Big Wooden House is a unique, large Arts and Crafts country house. It offers luxury self catering accommodation with its generously proportioned public areas, grand piano, log fire, luxurious kitchen and bathrooms.
You reach the house by a private tree-lined driveway. There is ample parking for four cars.
The house is on stilts, which means all the public rooms are on the first floor. There is a veranda round most of this floor (great for smokers or sunbathers). Greyholme has 43 windows, each with stunning views. There is oil fired central heating throughout.
The house sits beside the river with a choice of two beaches closeby. The fourth tee of the golf course is just on the other side of a tall hedge, but please remember to pay your greenfees. Brodick is an easy walk along the fishermans walk or by the main road.
Once you have entered through the porch the kitchen with oil fired Aga is on the left with the pantry opposite. Next is a double bedroom with door to the veranda and an adjacent loo.
Walking past the beautiful oak staircase (with carvings by Claud Gill) you enter the Dining room, which has a large dining table for 10. Step through the double glass doors to the beautiful living room with its multi-burner stove, a lovely baby grand piano, which is tuned regularly, and TV with Freeview.
The top floor has two bathrooms, one with a large separate wet room / shower. There are two family bedrooms, one of which has a double bed and a sofabed, a twin bedroom and a double. There's also a separate loo and a laundry room.

Greyholme sits next to the fourth tee of the Brodick Golf course, one of seven on the island, a beautiful secluded beach is a mere five minute stroll away.
Brodick Castle with it's world famous gardens and the Auchrannie Spa Hotel with its two swimming pools and all it's amenities including a beauty salon if you fancy some pampering.
The Heritage museum, Cheese shop, Arran Aromatics and Brewery are all a ten minute walk away where you can also pick up the start of the Goat fell path.
Arran is still one of the few places left in Scotland that have red squirrel, look out too for red deer and golden eagles as you go north to enchanting Lochranza with its ancient Castle, whisky distillery and scenic harbour, where with luck you may see otters, seals, dolphins and maybe basking sharks.
Pets by arrangement only. Dogs are not allowed in bedrooms, must be kept off the furniture and have their own bed or blanket. Woopsie bags must be used when taking dogs out.
