Newbiggin Hall Cottages, Aislaby, Whitby, North Yorkshire
Granary, Cedar, Acorn and Park Lane are four newly converted 17C farm buildings. These Holiday Cottages all have traditionally styled beamed ceilings and spacious open plan ground floor living, covered in either stone flags or tiles with under-floor heating. They are well equipped and furnished to a high standard, making them attractive and comfortable.
The smallest of the cottages it is full of old world charm created from the original beamed ceilings of the granary, where the corn was milled to make the meal for animals or ground to make flour. Below, horses were stabled and harnesses were hung. The stairs lead directly into a double room, with a private shower room at the top of the stairs. Through a glazed door you get a view of Newbiggin Hall and gardens. Leading from the open plan lounge, through a glazed Door is the patio with a superb view of rolling fields.
The largest of the cottages, this is where the cows would wait to be milked and lived during the winter months. Cedar is spacious and comfortable offering the opportunity for a large family or two families to stay side by side. This unit has the added benefit of a ground floor en-suite twin bedroom, to aid a person with restricted mobility or who find negotiating stairs difficult.
Acorn used to be where the milking machine was situated and where the milk was cooled; the milk churns would be filled and made ready to put on the cart to be delivered. Now this comfortable country cottage is similar in layout to Park Lane, with open plan kitchen/diner/living on the ground floor and two en-suite bedrooms on the first floor.
Park Lane was once where the cows stood to be milked. This pretty country cottage has an open plan kitchen/diner/living space on the ground floor and two en-suite bedrooms on the first floor. Park Lane has two double bedrooms and is the end unit. Entry to the garden is from the lounge, through a beautifully glazed archway with spectacular views of the Esk valley.
The cottages stand in the grounds of where now stands Newbiggin Hall, a 17th Century house which was rebuilt after a fire. The cottages are located in the Esk Valley within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, making it convenient for many beautiful walks.
