Quayside Cottage, Whitby, North Yorkshire
Quayside Cottage is a cosy self catering pet friendly holiday home that is situated opposite the River Esk, with good views of Whitby Harbour in North Yorkshire. Our holiday home is adjacent to two further holiday homes called Boatyard Cottage and Cuddy Cottage, which can be let together to accommodate a party of 12 people.
This spacious Georgian stone cottage has been renovated to a high standard but still boasts period features such as cast iron fireplaces, polished wooden floors and stripped pine doors. It has a well equipped kitchen with washer/dryer, a double bedroom with en suite shower room and a twin bedroom with en suite bathroom.
Our neighbouring holiday cottages Cuddy is an ideal retreat for one or two people or as space for older members of a family group to stay. It is a compact cottage that consists of a combined lounge/kitchen/diner with stairs up to a double bedroom with en suite shower room. Downstairs has a ceramic tiled floor with under floor heating, a high spec kitchen with natural beech worktops and stainless steel appliances including a fan oven and a microwave. There is a plasma style wall mounted fire, a leather sofa, a fold-down dining table and chairs and a TV. Outside is an outhouse with a washer/dryer and a tiny yard.
Boatyard Cottage can accommodate up to 6 people and has been tastefully renovated while still retaining much of its original charm and character. It has stripped pine floors and doors, cast iron fireplace and some beamed ceilings. The lounge has a real flame gas fire set in a period fireplace and 2 comfy leather sofas plus 32" LCD TV with "Freeview" and a DVD player. All the bedrooms have comfortable good quality beds and as well as the Victorian style bathroom with roll topped bath and powerful separate shower there is a 1st floor cloakroom with basin and w. The panoramic views from the 1st floor lounge and the master bedroom cover the boatyard, harbour and marina as well as the west side of Whitby.
The ancient fishing port of Whitby is built on both banks of the mouth of the river Esk. The older East side is joined to the West side by a swing bridge which opens to let boats out from the inner harbour and marina onto the open sea. The main street of the old East side of Whitby is Church Street, which has cottages to one side and the river to the other. At the swing bridge it becomes a cobbled pedestrian street with houses and shops on both sides. Church Street runs to the base of the 199 steps up to Whitby Abbey and Saint Hilda's Church with its eerie graveyard of weathered headstones. From here you have a marvellous view up the coast to Sandsend with its pretty beach.
