Southlands Farm Cottages are on an active, working farm in Northumberland. Our 37 acre farm is set in rolling Northumberland countryside, a wonderful place to stay for those who want rest and relaxation. We actively manage the land and our ever-growing family of animals. There are many public footpaths from our doorstep. We are just 7 miles from the market town of Hexham and its superb racecourse. There is a lovely local pub in the village of Gunnerton as well as boarding kennels.

The cottages were developed from an 18th century Northumberland byre and granary using Charles's skills as an engineer and Dee's creative background in fashion and textile design.

The Hayloft: A romantic retreat for 2 or an idyllic retreat for 1. This endearing holiday home is a wonderful retreat for escaping the noise of modern day living. Inside you will find an open plan studio style living space. It has been tastefully decorated and furnished, giving a homely place to return to at the end of each day. A king size bed can be found on a raised mezzanine floor.

In the winter, the wood burning stove is a wonderful way to keep toasty and in the summer you can keep the door open and let the warmth and sunlight flood in.

Middle Cottage: Oozing in charm and character, this well-appointed cottage includes everything you need for an enjoyable stay. It has a cosy cottage feel and a quaint, open plan living area that is centred around a middle staircase. The handmade staircase leads to a sweet, galleried bedroom with exposed beams, antique furnishings and en suite facilities.

This cottage is perfect for couples who are looking for a romantic break away. There is a wood burning stove which is lovely on those cooler days, along with comfortable seating and a well-appointed galley kitchen.

East Cottage: A cosy cottage sleeping up to 4 guests. It is a relaxing retreat that is suitable for a family of 4 or a couple who appreciate the extra space. The interior is eclectic and charming, with the whole cottage being decorated and furnished to the highest of standards. There is an open plan living area with a large, south facing window, letting in plenty of light. Underfloor heating keeps the cottage warm, however, when the weather is chilly, we do recommend lighting the open fire. A bespoke spiral staircase leads to an extremely pretty mezzanine double bedroom with Velux window for a spot of stargazing, as well as an additional twin bedroom and large shower room.

West Cottage: Originally part of an 18th Century byre and granary. It has been meticulously converted to provide guests with a warm and inviting place to stay. For those who are looking for a tranquil place to stay where you can escape the noise of modern day living, West Cottage is ideal. It has been thoughtfully decorated and furnished throughout, in a contemporary country cottage style. There is underfloor heating throughout the ground floor and a wonderful, handmade kitchen. The main living space has a wood burning stove and original exposed coined stonework which adds character and charm. These rooms are separated by a central staircase, which leads to the double and twin bedroom. Both of the bedrooms have en suite facilities.

This really is a perfect spot to sit back and enjoy the good life - pick seasonal produce from the garden, enjoy free range eggs and Dexter beef from the farm or perhaps pack an easel and explore your creative side painting from the owners’ art studio just yards from the doorstep.

Outside is a large shared garden and the owners’ grow their own fruit and vegetables, which guests are welcome to make use of when in season. Guests are also very welcome to share the owner's art studio space, allowing you to get in touch with your creative side.

Our cottages are a relaxing retreat, for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of modern day living. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside, which is often the source of inspiration for artists. Floristry and painting courses are available on site and we would be happy to discuss this with you if you would like to get in touch with your creative side.

Just up the road is a village shop and country pub in Barrasford or a short drive will take you to The Feathers, a fantastic artisan restaurant passionate about food provenance and renowned for its excellent regional food and relaxed friendly environment. Here you can sample the delights of Dexter beef supplied straight from the farm along with a fine real ale.
