There is no light pollution as the barns are within the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park, bird life is everywhere and the surrounding hay meadows are well-known for their insect life, with the meadows previously receiving an award for the wide variety of native bees. In addition to the stunning views and wildlife, there are also at least six ancient monuments on the farm – Roman camps, cup and ring marks and so on.

It is 16 miles inland from Alnwick and just under 10 miles from Wooler, a small market town – a lot less if you walk or ride! We are situated in the Cheviot Hills between the Breamish and Harthope Valleys, at the foot of Hedgehope with Cheviot, Northumberland’s highest peak, nestling alongside. A section of the Sandstone Way runs past the door of The Barns, National Cycle Network route 68 passes the road end, The Pennine Way is within 2 miles and there are multiple footpaths and bridleways crossing the farm.
