Findlays Cottage is our dog friendly holiday home on the Mainland of Orkney and overlooking Scapa Flow. This cosy cottage, built of stone and converted from a traditional Orkney croft, is on the north shore of the Flow with fine views to the south isles and west to the mountainous island of Hoy. It provides an ideal base for those who want a relaxing and rural break away. There are fine coastal footpaths along the shoreline in both directions.

The cottage can sleep up to 6 people in two bedrooms (one double and one twin) and on a pull out double sofa bed in the living room.. Our holiday home also consists of:

Spacious living/dining room with solid fuel stove.

Well equipped kitchen.

Small study.

Bathroom with bath, shower, washbasin, WC and heated towel rail.

Sun porch.

Heating is by wall mounted radiators in all rooms supplied by a ground source heat pump. A small wind turbine on the field at the back of the cottage supplements the mains electricity supply and makes the cottage self sufficient in energy.

The cottage is about 250 m from the shore and is surrounded by 6 acres of open pasture where dogs can run freely. There is a small walled garden at the east end of the cottage which is suitable for small children to play in. A baby cot and baby feeding chair are available on request.

The cottage is equidistant from Kirkwall and Stromness and is a mile from the south isles ferry terminal of Houton. With excellent walking country in the Orphir hills, and a short drive to Maeshowe, the Ring of Brodgar and the Standing Stones of Stenness, the cottage provides a perfect base for exploring the mainland of Orkney and the south isles.
