Details

Pen-y-Dyffryn Country Hotel is one of the most highly regarded of "Shropshire Hotels", a fact recognised by its consistently top rating on Tripadvisor. It offers the facilities of a beautiful country hotel, good food and spa treatments in the glorious Shropshire countryside. Near to Oswestry and Shrewsbury it is perfect for walking, golfers, shoppers, foodies or idlers.

All guest bedrooms are, of course, en suite with telephones, Wi-Fi and modem access, tea and coffee making facilities, trouser presses, etc, and all except one (the smaller double) have spectacular south facing views over the gardens and surrounding hills. Several of the hotel bedrooms have an en suite Jacuzzi or a spa bath, and the bedrooms in the adjoining Coach House have their own private stone-walled patios if you prefer that extra touch of seclusion. These rooms are particularly popular with pet owners, and the hotel grounds are safe from passing traffic. The hotel also has a ground floor room particularly suitable for infirm guests, with French windows onto the hotel terrace.

Hotels with good food can be difficult to find. But we know from talking to our guests that dining in our restaurant, with its huge, south-facing sash windows, is central to the Pen-y-Dyffryn experience. We are open to non-residents and are one of the longest established AA Two Rosette restaurants in Shropshire. (Over 10 years now). Our guests appreciate good food. Ingredients are healthy, locally sourced, and we tend to the use of organic produce. We even have our own tame deerstalker, and game features regularly on the menu along with more traditional delights. And there is always at least one vegetarian choice at each course.

Although blessed with an overwhelming sense of peace and serenity, you're never far from civilisation at Pen-y-Dyffryn. This English/Welsh borderland positively breathes history.

There are four major National Trust properties within half an hour’s drive of the hotel; Powis Castle, Chirk Castle, Attingham Hall and Erddig. Each merits a day visit in itself. And just a little further afield is Bodnant, regularly voted by National Trust Members as the nation’s favourite gardens. The medieval timbered towns of Chester and Shrewsbury are only a short drive away, and both are major tourist attractions in themselves. The small and friendly market town of Oswestry is three miles away, hosting the biggest street market in Shropshire on a Wednesday and a Saturday.
