House Boat Hotels - Ruby and Lily May, Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Maggie and Terry Hall launched Houseboat Hotels in 1999. At that time (and maybe still today in 2008) it was a unique idea, the first people to offer city centre apartment style accommodation, aboard a houseboat in the country. They had themselves lived aboard a houseboat for over two years and in a moment of either madness or inspiration purchased a rather sad looking Ruby, gave her a major facelift and started an unconventional and original business. Lily May changed from home to hotel in 2000. People seem to love it. In 2003 Waterscape.com awarded them Best Waterside Hotel and Most Innovative Waterside Business. In September 2005 they were voted Sheffield Tourism Ambassadors by Sheffield Hospitality. An award they were proud to be nominated for again in 2007. Terry and Maggie have now 'handed the tiller' over to their friends Kathryn and Karl who will continue to welcome guests both old and new to their much loved houseboats.
We have two boats with en-suite bathrooms, shower, toilets, hand basins, constant hot water and fully equipped kitchens for self catering.
You will be welcomed aboard with all the comforts of home.
Our boats are bright, modern and well designed with natural woods and colourful textiles, In winter months the warmth of a wood burning stove and radiators create a warm cosy atmosphere. Living quarters have dining area, lounge with television, video and digital radio/micro hi-fi's.
Lily May is 50ft long and has a fixed double bedroom and a fixed double berth - both have hatches to look out and watch the nights reflections dance on the water.
Ruby is 40ft long and has a fixed double bedroom with hatches opening onto the front deck. Doors from the lounge open on to a spacious aft deck with seating for you to relax in the open air.
If you are a business traveller weary of the usual four hotel walls and would like a unique and relaxing stay in a central yet peaceful location, try us.
